What’s your Rashee Review
What’s Your Raashe, as everyone knows is directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar and got released in theaters this Friday (25th Sept.) The movie is based on a Gujrati family where Yogesh Patel (Harman Baweja) is an NRI. He lives in Chicago, studies MBA in a university and works part-time, but at night he turns up as a DJ. He has a family in India which lives in Mumbai. They call him up to India, when they find themselves in a chaos. Now, he has to get married within 10 days to save his family from a huge debt. After reading a horoscope book about 12 Zodiac signs, he starts his hunt of meeting 12 different girls one from each Zodiac sign. Yogesh Patel, starts looking for a girl who may turn into a good wife. Here it begins the melodrama of hilarious activities when this serious and practical man finds new things in every meeting with girls.
Basically, What’s Your Raashee? is based on a Gujrati novel Kimball Ravenswood by Shri Madhu Rye. The story is about a guy in search of a girl to get married with her in 10 days in order to save his family from a huge debt which in turn creates loads of chaos, fun and hilarious activities.
Priyanka Chopra has shown up as a girl of each Zodiac sign in the movie. Her Aries and Capricorn character took the cake; rest characters were not that impressive but pleasure to watch. The story line-up is good, but it was difficult for Ashutosh Gowarikar to set-up 12 independent stories in a single movie. The movie loses its pace after intermission. It messes up all the things up to that level where, even, director of the movie found it difficult to get a good climax. Moreover, 14 songs also raised the boredom to the highest extent. The only good part in the movie worthy of appreciation is the cinematography by Piyush Shah.
This movie reminds you of a funny character Mr. Yogi (Mohan Gokhale) that came long back on Doordarshan. This NRI, Mr. Yogi, visits India to get married. During his search for a good girl whom he meets in each episode, he experiences some weird things every time. What’s Your Raashee? has the same plot and the character of Yogesh Patel revolves around Mr. Yogi.
What’s Your Raashee? received huge appreciation of International audience at its TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) on the occasion of its World Premiere at Roy Thompson Hall. Audience at TIFF loved 12 of Priyanka’s characters and fell in love with the flick immediately. The movie successfully spread and left the mark of Indian Flavor.
